What are Capital Accounts?

Capital accounts record the long-term investment made by partners into the partnership business.

Current accounts record regular adjustments relating to partners, including:

• profit shares
• drawings
• interest on capital
• partner salaries
• interest on drawings

Current Account Entry:
Credit Ali Current Account £1,200

Example 2 — Drawings

Sara withdraws goods worth £800.

Current Account Entry:
Debit Sara Current Account £800

Example 3 — Current Account Balance

Credits:
Profit Share £6,000
Interest on Capital £1,000

Debits:
Drawings £2,500

Closing Balance:
£7,000 − £2,500
= £4,500 credit balance
